In a moment, your life can change. Every person will encounter moments of impact in their lives. How you respond to those moments define all your tomorrows. I hear so many people taking time to talk about what they have lost. Whether they lost money, various objects, a loved one, a good or bad relationship, time, or hope; they have all experienced a certain amount of pain that comes with loss.
It can be painful to move through a grieving process, but inevitably they will work through the pain. Usually at the end of that period, they can stand up with a renewed sense of purpose. I have found that the only way to stand strong is to have a sense of purpose that comes with a clear vision. Clarity is the key to success. It is easy to get distracted with the busyness of life, but if you can carve out time to define your goals with clarity, the chances of it happening go up 1000%. Many have asked me about how to discover their purpose or create a vision that can help them through this self-discovery.
If you don’t know where you are going, you won’t know when you get there.
I have a process that I use to help create vision. Many years ago, I was working with mentors and colleagues learning a new business. We sat at the end of a training program and decided to write a 3-year letter. This was the first time I had ever heard about writing a letter that describes your future. It is the process of putting your hopes and dreams on paper.
Brian Tracy talks about a group of Harvard graduates. They followed this group and found that the top 3% that had written, defined goals achieved more than the other 97% combined. That is HUGE! Add up everything the 97% did. The 3% did more. Let’s take time today to do the same. If you will take time to write this letter, in 3 years you will come back and see how much progress you have made.
Close your eyes and visualize the answers to the following questions. If your life was perfect in every respect, what does it look like? Every wish has been granted. Every dream has been fulfilled. What does your life look like if it was perfect?
Again, the key to success with this exercise is clarity. Get crystal clear in the definition of what you want and I can assure you, you will have better results than if you did not do this.
At the top of the paper write the date as 3 years from now. Write the letter in the present tense. Write it to someone that you care about. Write it to someone that you will read it to and who will hold you accountable to achieving your dreams. Then, put that letter in an envelope dated 3 years from today. Place it somewhere that you will see it every day. My letter is taped to my bathroom mirror. It is the first thing I see every morning, when I look at myself in the mirror. It helps me stay focused throughout the day. As I get caught up in a million "To Do" tasks, it helps me ask this question: "Is what I'm doing right now, helping me get to the things I defined in that letter as being important to my purpose?"
In every area of your life, define your vision of success. I did this many years ago and have been able to cross off every item on that first letter that seemed so impossible at the time. My vision has expanded and the items on the letter can seem unattainable at times, but I never give up as I move towards the goal. Today, my husband and I write this letter together. We have a 1 year, 3 year and 20 year letter. It helps us stay on track, even in moments where we feel like we have been completely derailed. Setbacks can occur in life. It will happen….but if you are willing to stay focused and keep working towards your goals; one day you will look up and realize how far you have come. Your reality will be better than your dreams even imagined.
Never give up!
Keep moving forward!
Define your goals and write it down. There is power in the written word and when you declare it in unity with those you care about, incredible things can occur.
If you have personally worked with me in this process, please share this article and help someone else create a vision that helps them define their purpose.

That is a question I get a lot in my industry. It’s different for everyone based on their personal goals and objectives. I read an article a few years ago and it stuck with me. It was a great analogy to explain how you can develop the best approach for your business.
This article compared digital marketing to a unique recipe for salsa. Thinking of my Chilean roots, this was a great picture to paint.
When contemplating all the variations of salsa, many people immediately think about pico de gallo (my personal favorite). There are traditional tomato-based salsas that most people are familiar with and there are lots of variations like mango, tomatillo, jicama, black bean, etc. There are mild, medium, sweet, hot and fire salsas. People can use different types of chilies and peppers such as jalapenos, cayenne, bell, habanero and Serrano.
The type of salsa you use depends on what you are combining it with. For chips and salsa, I love pico de gallo. However, if I am in the mood for salmon, I will make a mango or apricot salsa because it compliments and enhances the flavor of the fish.
The same concept applies to digital marketing. SEO is a great strategy for general keywords. An SEO campaign could probably be compared to a great mild or medium salsa. It should inform customers that you offer many types of salsa via the general terms. You really don’t want the SEO campaign to be too hot as it could turn off prospective customers.”
Paid search on Google, Yahoo or Bing can be compared to a hot pepper like the habanero. Set a monthly budget to optimize your ROI because there is a point of diminishing return. However, the more chili or pepper added, the more heat produced. This will drive more traffic. This should compliment SEO, enrich reach, and helps the targeting of keywords not yet matured in an SEO campaign.
Social media and contextual advertising allows you to offer variations of salsa. I compare this to mango or black bean salsa. You can acquire new customers and traffic, but it should never be served alone. It is one part of the complete meal.
What is the best digital marketing mix?
This is your own personal recipe. The key is to define your goals, objectives and budget. How is the salsa to be used? Who are you feeding? How many people do you need to feed? How hot should it be?
Then you evaluate and analyze various strategies and align them with your goals and objectives.
With that complete, you have your secret recipe.
But, you might be thinking…..I’m not a cook. That’s ok; I can help you create your recipe. Just contact me.
